Dorothy Gwin of Southaven, MS was killed in a car crash when a man ran a stop sign while fleeing police officers from Southaven and Horn Lake police departments. A toxicology test was done on the at fault driver to see whether he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. The police were chasing the driver for at least five miles before the accident happened. The driver was charged with manslaughter for causing the death of Ms. Gwin who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The family of Ms. Gwin can make a claim against the driver and owner of the vehicle's insurance company for causing the accident. If there is no insurance coverage on the at fault driver, then the family can make a claim against Ms. Gwin's own insurance company for uninsured motorist and med pay benefits.
