Charles Farmer, an FAA inspector from Alabama was killed and Larry Wells of Crystal Springs is in critical condition at the University Medical Center after their Robinson R-44 helicopter went down and crashed into a vacant house. They were practicing aerial maneuvers. It is possible that the rotor broke in the air causing the crash. Both men were experienced pilots and one was giving the other a proficiency check.
If the rotor did in fact give out during the flight, then a claim could be made against the company that made the helicopter. Also, the owner of the helicopter may be sued if the helicopter was not properly maintained. There may be other causes of action for this accident, but an investigation needs to be completed first.
