A Waveland Police Officer caused a wreck when he swerved his patrol car out of a turn lane and into oncoming traffic. His car collided with a Cadillac Escalade which caused the Escalade to go out of control which struck the bicyclist, Francisco Jesus Mendoza Suarez. The accident happened on U.S. 90 at about 10 p.m. Both vehicles were totaled out. Mr. Suarez was pronounced dead at Hancock Medical Center. John Baudoin, the driver of the Escalade, was taken to Gulfport Memorial with serious injuries.

A freshman at East Mississippi Community College, Davishe Walker, was killed when the vehicle she was riding in turned in front of a Ford pickup truck on Hwy. 45 near Scooba, MS. The driver of the car failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming truck. Ms. Walker was an honors student and a member of the choir and band. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Three other EMCC students were injured and taken to the local hospital in Meridian, MS.

A bicyclist was hit by an SUV while being stopped for questioning near Hwy. 90 and Bouslog Street. A Waveland Police officer stopped the man for questioning when the accident happened. Eric Barrow of Baton Rouge, LA. was killed in an accident on I-10 on the Mississippi River Bridge when his vehicle hit the rear of a stopped 18 wheeler which was stopped on the down slope in the inside westbound lane. An earlier accident was the reason why the 18 wheeler was stopped on the bridge.

Jamie Russell of Columbia was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 truck westbound with passengers Adrianna Batimon of Carson, and Taylor Newsome of Prentiss when a collision occurred with a 2007 Ford F-150 truck driven eastbound by Dustin White of Sumrall. The accident happened at the intersection of Miss. 588 and Sandhill Church Road about four miles outside of Ellisville. After the accident, the vehicles exploded and caught on fire. Three people were killed in the accident: Jasmine Russell, Adrianna Batimon and Dustin White. Taylor Newsome was in critical condition at the local hospital. Rescuers tried unsuccessfully to pull Mr. White from his vehicle and went to the other vehicle to help get Newsome out who was screaming for help. Alan West of Olive Branch, MS was killed in a two-car accident when his car was involved in an crash with a vehicle driven by Cherrese Cooper-Holmes. West was headed northeast on Miss. 713 and the other driver was northbound on I-69 when the vehicles collided at the Lake Cormorant interchange.

Two people were killed in a one vehicle accident that happened on the Mississippi Coast. The driver, Timothy Pittman of Picayune, and the passenger, Lisa Necaise of Pass Cristian were pronounced dead on the scene. Jeremy Mays,22, of Vardaman, MS was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on Hwy. 341. Mr. Mays was a passenger in a 2006 Nissan Sentra going southbound when a head-on collision occurred with a 2006 Nissan Altima going northbound. Dustin Brown,22, from Moss Point, MS was killed when he was hit by a hit-and-run driver on Hwy. 613. He was pronounced dead at the scene and autopsy showed he died from blunt force trauma. The driver left the scene, but turned himself into authorities a few days later. Michael Landry was charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Landry was driving a 1995 GMC Sierra pickup truck.

Charles Farmer, an FAA inspector from Alabama was killed and Larry Wells of Crystal Springs is in critical condition at the University Medical Center after their Robinson R-44 helicopter went down and crashed into a vacant house. They were practicing aerial maneuvers. It is possible that the rotor broke in the air causing the crash. Both men were experienced pilots and one was giving the other a proficiency check.

Alana Jordan died at the scene of an accident when she was going too fast and couldn't make the curve on Henleyfield-McNeill Road. Her jeep left the road and flipped throwing out Ms. Jordan and her 8 year old son. LeJulia Dorothy White was killed by a drunk driver at the intersection of Hwy. 49 and Hardy Street. The driver of the other vehicle, Ronnie Matthews, was charged with DUI and a $1,000,000 bond has been set. Ms. White was a front seat passenger when their Ford Taurus was hit by the Dodge Durango SUV. Another passenger was sent to the local hospital in critical condition. All four students attended USM and were freshman. Ms. White was on scholarship and was well-liked by everyone who met her.

The sheriff has written a letter to MDOT; the board of supervisors is about to write a letter to MDOT; the local fire dept. has obtained about 5,500 signatures on a petition calling for major change at the deadly intersection;the daily newspaper published an article about the intersection accidents; and MDOT is PLANNING a sizeable project.

Well, how many more people have to die while some committee has a bunch of meetings PLANNING the project? The president of the board said: "y'all don't see it, but we do - we're the ones who have to drag the dead bodies out of the cars."

A dip in the road hides cars on the highway which blocks the view of that vehicle when someone attempts to cross the highway. Local authorities want a four way stop sign put up NOW, but MDOT wants to study the matter. Go figure. I wonder how long MDOT would study the matter if the families of the people who were killed or severely injured in accidents at this intersection filed a lawsuit against MDOT for failure to correct a known dangerous condition for a long time? I bet that a four way stop sign would be constructed overnight the day after a lawsuit was filed.

A vehicle was trying to pass other vehicles on the shoulder of MS River bridge and caused an accident. The alleged driver fled the scene into a wooded area in Natchez, MS. The other passengers named the wrong person as the driver. The case is still under investigation.
